Virginia Death Certificate

Qualifications

The following people may request death certificates from the state of Virginia:

• Spouse
• Parent
• Legal Guardian (must submit custody order)
• Child
• Sibling
• Grandparent

Cost

The fee to search for a death certificate is $12.00, which includes one certified copy of the death certificate. Each additional copy of the record ordered at the same time is also $12.00. Checks or money orders should be made payable to the "State Health Department." Cash is not accepted, except if the request is made in person. Fees are not refundable.

The office is open from 8:00 am until 4:45 pm, Monday through Friday, and from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon on Saturdays.
