Helen Bold of Dallas, 95, died peacefully on October 2, 2013, at her daughter's home in Richardson, Texas.
She was born on May 1, 1918, in St. Joseph, MO to Tillie and Jack Kay (formerly Kaminsky). She received a degree in Social Work from the University of Missouri at Kansas City and started her career as a social worker. Helen married Boris Kleiman on August 5, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri. Together they had 3 children, Ronnie, Karen and Vicki. Boris died in 1951 when Helen's children were 3, 5 and 7. Helen, determined not to be poor, entered a man's world and started selling real estate to make sure her children were well taken care of. By 1955 she was able to have a small custom home built for her family. June 15,1958, Helen married Bennie Bold, a widower with 2 children of his own, Steve and Sheila. The new blended family moved from Kansas City to Dallas to start an adventuresome new life together. The family soon rejoiced in the birth of a new baby that belonged to everyone, Jay Brian Bold. Tragically, Jay died of leukemia before his 6th birthday. Eventually, the family moved forward and Helen continued pursuing her career in real estate working in Dallas for Artha Garza and eventually Ebby Halliday where she stayed for 35 years, earning top sales awards and accolades. After many happy years, Helen's 2nd husband, Bennie Bold died in1993.
Her whole life, Helen was a dedicated volunteer but at retirement, she made a grand plan of how she would devote herself to her volunteer work. Simultaneously for many years, Helen volunteered as a court advocate for abused and battered women, worked at The Family Place where she supported victims of domestic abuse, and helped out at the JCC Gift Shop. She also traveled far and wide helping seniors learn the perils of overmedication and how to manage their various prescriptions.
Helen leaves behind a wonderful family, including a sister Floriene Lieberman (George) of Kansas City, and her children Ron Kleiman (Ann) of Chicago, Karen Schneiderman (Milton) of Washington DC, Steve Bold (Gloria) of Millsboro DE, Vicki Eisenberg (Essi Babaahmadi) of Richardson, TX and Sheila Shifrin (Harvey) of Chicago.
Helen is also survived by her 12 grandchildren Jennifer Kleiman, Aaron Kleiman, Kara Brodeur, Loring Pelz, Abby Schneiderman, Jessica Schneiderman, Arlo Eisenberg, Josie Eisenberg-Smith, Leah Bold, Brett Bold, Brandon Krisztal, and Melissa Krisztal; and her 11 great-grandchildren Kayla Kleiman, Arlen Brodeur, Zoe Brodeur, Ethan Brodeur, Parker Brodeur, Vaughn Pelz, Chloe Pelz, Wynne Schneiderman-Hordell, Lulu Eisenberg, Noah Eisenberg-Smith, and Hayden Eisenberg-Smith.
The family is indebted to her caregivers Barbara, Angelica and New Century Hospice.
