Farewell

You probably didn't know James Rebhorn by name. But you definitely knew his face. He was an acting workhorse, with over 125 film and television credits. He could play the perfect bureaucratic killjoy and then pivot and become the most caring father or trusted advisor. Though you'd never know it by his tireless work ethic, he had been suffering from skin cancer since 1992.

Walter George Bruhl Jr. lived a full life and shared it with the world on his terms by writing his own obituary. He died on March 9th of this year and his grandson honored him by sharing this must read summary of Mr. Bruhl’s life:

According to a new study, hospital mistakes are the third leading cause of death in America, right behind heart disease (#1) and cancer (#2). The estimated number: between 210,000 to 440,000 a year.

Before you panic and refuse to ever go to a hospital again, let’s see how we got to these massive numbers.

Last week I was at my desk when I received a group text from my mom: “My mom just died.” And then, “I was with her on FaceTime.” I replied, “OMG.” And then my sister replied angrily, “oh my god MOM how did you just text us that??? oh my god.” (She was clearly upset to find out our grandma had passed away via text.)
